Leaf Art and Poems
A small group of children were chosen to work on this apprenticeship to encourage their use of literacy in poetry form. Michelle Willis and Allie Giles who attend our Learning Exchange afternoons worked on a project for 'Sense'. The idea came from Allie to create two trees that people could walk through and experience the seasons. The trees were created at Sense in Exeter and children from Chudleigh Knighton School designed and made leaves to be hung on the trees. The completed trees went to various venues over the course of the summer and made their final destination at West Town Farm, nr Ide.
Joseph, Holly, Adriana and Oscar visited the trees to place their leaf poems on Thursday 17th September. The poems had been written alongside Michelle, Allie and two students at the school last year. The children wrote the poems after they had spent sometime in the school garden to gain some inspiration.
On Sunday 20th September one of the trees was burnt as part of a tree naming ceremony at West Town Farm, the laminated leaves will form part of a display at the Sense, 'Café 55' in Exeter and the remaining tree will be placed in storage for future art exhibitions.
