Welcome

Logo New

Chudleigh Knighton C.E. Primary is a thriving, friendly and happy village school of 90 children. It was the first school in Devon to enter into a hard federation with another local school. Since September 2006 we have been linked to Blackpool Primary School just down the road and more recently our federation has grown to five schools, with one combined set of leaders and governors guiding all schools. This new federated arrangement has lead to rapid and exciting progress at Chudleigh Knighton. Our March 2012 Ofsted report confirmed what the children and parents already knew; this is a very good school with many outstanding features.

Here are a few highlights from the report:

  • Pupils behaviour is outstanding.
  • Pupils are making good progress, so that standards at the end of Year 6 are above average in writing and mathematics and high in reading.
  • All teaching is of good quality, with teachers creating a positive and creative atmosphere.
  • There are outstanding qualities to senior leadership.
  • Older pupils set excellent examples as very good role models.
  • The school's partnership with parents and carers is outstanding.

Our talented team of educators enjoy their work and the stimulating environment makes learning fun and raises standards. If this website makes you want to come and see for yourselves, please telephone and I or my House Captains will give you a guided tour.

Jazz Musical Workshop

The jazz octet Swunk enjoyed their visit to Chudleigh Knighton on Field Day, delivering workshops to the pupils at the primary school in a delightful rural setting.  Mr P Tamlyn and a charismatic Harry Vercoe led the sessions.  They demonstrated how a jazz group consists of a rhythm section providing the accompaniment, with a brass section providing the melody, and the Chudleigh Knighton pupils sung along with Ellie Partridge in Ellington's piece "Duke's Place".

Thank You

I would like to say a big thank you for all your support during the Ofsted Inspection.

Mrs Huntington

Ofsted Inspection

Netball Tournament

Congratulations to Chudleigh Knighton Primary School’s Colts and Seniors Netball Teams who took part and won the Inter-Schools Netball Tournament which was held at Blackpool Primary School on Wednesday 14th March.

Proposed Changes to School Uniform

DSCF0469.jpg

From September 2012, it is proposed that the children will wear a ‘V’ neck sweatshirt, with a white shirt and a school tie. There are no additional costs  with this change, in fact it works out cheaper!

All other items of uniform would remain the same.

The children really like the idea of wearing a tie and made the following comments:

'Wow! That looks really smart'

'I can't wait to wear the new sweatshirt!'

'That would make me feel really important'

'We would look extra special when we go on school trips'

Jubilee Tree Planting

DSCF0306.JPG

Thank you to all our parents/carers who came into school on Thursday to help all the pupils in the school to plant trees in the school field. The trees are part of the Woodland Trusts celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, hopefully in years to come they will help to supply us with a shaded area to rest in when on the field, as well as providing us with our own venue for a forest school. Also, a huge thank you to Mrs Dennis for co-ordinating this activity.

Sign to Sing!

DSCF0263.jpg

Congratulations to everybody who took part in our record breaking attempt at having the most people singing and signing, in British Sign Language, the same song at the same time. We are not sure how many people took part, the aim was to have 200,000 participants, but as soon as we hear anything we will let you know. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Hammond for teaching our children to sign.
