This week children in Burrator and Saddletor 'Met the Lifeguards'. Members from the RNLI came into school to highlight their 'Water Smart Campaign' which teaches children to have fun and stay safe around water. They focused on four points:
1. 'Stop and Think' - Is it safe to swim?
How deep is the water?
What dangers could be under the surface?
At the beach, have you spoken to the Lifeguards for advice?
2. 'Stay Safe' - Always go with someone else.
Tell someone where you're going and when you'll
Carry a phone to call for help.
3. 'Float' - Practice floating when next at the swimming pool.
4. 'Call 999 or 112'. You can help if someone else is in trouble.
They also came along with a variety of 'props' for children to try!
