D-Day Remembered

Across the school pupils looked into the events both leading up to and after 6th June 1944.

Children in Haytor and Kestor constructed 'Anderson Shelters' using either giant lego bricks or other construction materials. Whilst those in KS2 used the words of the poem by 'Jim Radford' to create black and white sketches relating to each verse.

A wide variety of artefacts from World War 2 were bought into school for children to see; some of which included ration books, medals, 'ID Cards' and items carried or worn by servicemen including a pair of RAF pilot's boots and thread used to stitch the 'Horsa Gliders' which were used to carry troops into Normandy.   Thank you to Mr Skinner for bringing in some of the above and to ex-serviceman Charlie Dennis for coming to talk to children.

The day concluded with a service held in church led by the school's Ethos Group attended by pupils, staff, parents and carers.
